Community School
Southeast Portland Preschool
Our SE Portland preschool is located in a beautiful customized schoolhouse with a dedicated, light-filled art studio, a large, open layout, and backyard playground. The school is certified for 16 children, and we divide these children into 2 groups based on age.
Toddler Class
The younger group is between 6 to 8 two and three year olds. Their teachers meet them where they are at developmentally, and provide a multitude of opportunities for exploration and play. Each day has a song time and story time, opportunities for sensory exploration, motor skills development, and imaginative play. This younger preschool class focuses on language development and the socio-emotional skills needed to form healthy attachments as a school community.
Preschool Class
The older group is 6 - 8 three to five year olds. These children take on responsibilities and stewardship of the school community. During circle time they are introduced to the Job Chart and they work in partnerships or individually to tidy and prepare the classroom. They begin long-term, investigative projects together, and extended time in the art studio.
Music Classes
Included in tuition are bi-weekly music classes with our visiting teaching artist Elodie of Chords Music. Elodie brings child sized ukeleles, and with her warm teaching style she brings out the natural love of music in each child.
